SPONSOR A CHILD

UGANDA has one of the youngest populations in the world. More than half of its 48.9 million people are children – which provides exciting potential for a dynamic future. After years of conflict and insecurity, there has been some considerable progress. More children are in school and fewer are dying of preventable illnesses. But many children, especially in urban/slums areas, still live in poverty and without their basic rights.

  • One in five children do not complete primary school.
  • More than a quarter of children under five suffer chronic malnutrition.
  • 75% of children experience violence.
  • At least 10% of girls are married before they are 15, and a quarter experienced sexual violence in the past year.

Essential services such as schools and health facilities are overcrowded and under-resourced. Laws and policies have been passed that could make a positive difference to children's lives, but are seldom resourced or enforced. Rural youth struggle to find decent work. Uganda hosts almost 1.5 million refugees fleeing some of the world's worst conflicts – one of the largest numbers in the world. More than 60% are children. The country has shown great generosity in opening its doors, but the influx has further increased the strain on services and more support is needed.

UGANDA BY THE NUMBERS

  • 48.9million total population
  • 76% of the population lives in rural areas,
  • 56% of people live on less than $1.90/day
  • 33% of people have an account at a financial institution
  • 53% of children complete primary education
  • 1.5 million refugees in Uganda
  • 3.6 million orphans
  • 61% of people live below the poverty line
  • Half of the population is under the 15years.

I was living a miserable life after my father, a casual laborer lost his left arm and leg and became incapacitated and couldn’t take care of the family. Sadly, my mother a market vendor abandoned us for another relationship. Education became hard until I was introduced to little angels initiative through which I got a sponsor and am now grateful because I went back to school. Me and my siblings’ now get essentials and we live a normal life. Thank you little angel’s initiative. May God bless you and also pray that you too have the kindness

I once lost hope, became disturbed and frustrated because my father was careless  to an extent of  appearing home twice in three years which left our mother a sole provider to the home which was exuberating and later became devastating when we lost  her to unknown circumstances . a  good Samaritan who helped me through life after assuming that I was tempting to spend the night at church . Through this organization, I have been able to resume school, receive some essentials and accommodation.

I lost my father to thugs who attacked and killed him while going to work at the city abattoir. My mother passed away when I was 4 so I was adopted by an elderly woman called Nnalongo who is also a low income earner. Naturally life became miserable and I dropped out of school. As a girl child, I was faced by many challenges. Luckily, god paved a way for me through little angels’ initiative, a community based organization which takes care of disadvantaged children. I managed to get a sponsor who now caters for me.

I pray that God allows you the grace to help sponsor me through my education.
